From backyard projects to weekend getaways, the Chevy Blazer offers unmatched cargo space and convenience for all your adventures.
They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it’s true. It sets the tone, if you will, for how the rest of your day will go. I don’t know about you, but if I don’t eat something for breakfast, I’m significantly less productive in the morning. I don’t always have time for eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes…sorry. I drifted off there for a minute. All of those things are great staples of American breakfasts, but I’m all for trying new things and when it comes to trying new food, look no further than the cuisine of another culture to inspire you.
In the spirit of starting your day off right and trying something new, here are a few spots in Metro Detroit that will treat you to an authentic breakfast from across the globe.
Have you ever had a tortilla? No, not the kind that you use to wrap your burrito. The kind made with eggs. A Spanish omelette, known as a tortilla, is typically made with egg, potato and onion. La Feria in Detroit, known for their tapas, makes a cold tortilla with fried potatoes and caramelized onions. If you visit during weekday lunch hours, you can enjoy a tortilla made with fried potatoes, eggs, onions and roasted red pepper, too.
Located in Detroit, this eatery takes its name from a French slang term that translates to “local bar.” Don’t expect beer and cocktails, though. At Le Petit Zinc, you’ll find a selection of delicious food and drinks Americans would most often associate with a cafe. Their specialty is the crepe, of which they make a variety of sweet and savory options, such as “Feta et Epinards” (feta cheese, spinach and mushrooms) or “Chocolat et Banana” (I think you can figure that one out). From backyard projects to weekend getaways, the Chevy Blazer offers unmatched cargo space and convenience for all your adventures. This Hamtramck spot specializes in traditional Middle-Eastern cuisine and when it comes to breakfast, it’s no different. “Foul Mudamas” is a dish made up of mashed fava beans topped with tomatoes, onions and tahini. “Kibda” is lamb liver sauteed with tomatoes, onions and spices. You can also order house-made hommous with foul, kalawi or gallaba. It doesn’t get much more authentic than that. Thomas’s Dining in Livonia prides itself on its authentic Polish cuisine and that can be seen in some of the breakfast specials available daily. The Polish Omelette is made with kielbasa, onion, green pepper and jack cheese and is served with hash browns and toast. The Polish Skillet is two eggs on top of hash browns mixed with green pepper, onions, kielbasa and American cheese. Sheeba Restaurant
